I would also like to point out that by hiring a virtual assistant versus an on-site personal assistant the real estate agent reduces the red tape, liability, and cost of training and managing that is associated with employees including payroll tax.

Evy,

This is such valuable information! Thank you for posting this. I know I will be using this information myself for my business and my real estate clients' businesses. It is so easy to overspend when sending out Press Releases...but obviously it's not always worth it.

Thanks again for such great, useful information.

I'm with you, Pam. When that happens I say, firmly, "What is my total?" Hopefully they'll get the hint!

The other thing I absolutely can't stand is when the cashier says nothing at all to you! Can you imagine?! Not hello, not your total, nothing! I've written a letter to the management when that's happened to me. I don't think something like that should be ignored.

Have a great day, Pam!

Oh my goodness Evy...how true! I often leave retail establishments in a tizzy because I'm so disgusted with their lack of customer service. One of my ultimate petpeeves? When a cashier doesn't tell you the total of your order, they expect you'll read it. To heck with it, I'm stubborn enough to stand there until they tell me! :-)

Thanks, Kandra! One hour a day to learn a new program sounds pretty aggressive but it certainly wouldn't hurt -- if you could set aside that time each day. :) I really like the idea of mastering what you already have then move on. That's a great idea!

Evy,
What a great post!! I love the " pseudo ADD."
As a Virtual business owner I think it is a must to keep up with the latest and greatest technology. Sometimes that can consume a lot of time. I just went to a seminar over the weekend and the speaker said we should set aside one hour a day learning a program we have or one we would like to purchase. I have a lot of programs and have not mastered them all, and I still buy more. The idea is to master what you have and then add on. I have a huge library (I love to read), I have a full iPod (I love to walk), and I have a full computer and subscribe to a lot of mailing lists... Is it too much?? You bet!!! Do I have ADD? No! Am I thinking I might have psuedo ADD...HMMMMM

Evy,

Great info here! We can't always be glued to our home computer, and your post gives a quick run down of what's available. I've been trying to figure out how I can convince my one on-site client to go 100% virtual and LogMeIn or GoToMyPC might be good options (especially if it's free).

Thanks for the information,
Teresa

Hi Ruth,

I've seriously considered a MAC too because it is better for graphics and less susceptible to virus attacks but I've read that there can be issues between platforms. Since most of my clients use a PC, I want my work to be compatible. I'm not quite ready for a new computer but when I am, I will give this more consideration.

Thanks for your comment, Ruth.

Hi Melissa,

I agree; I was at the point where I was just going to take it to Best Buy or somewhere like that to have them fix it but my husband -- who is pretty knowledgeable about computers -- wiped everything off the laptop and reinstalled the programs. It still runs slowly when my son's on it with so many things running at once but at least it works!

Oh Evy!!! I hate to read all of the hoops you had to go through to get your laptop up and running. YES the blue screen of death is A W E F U L!! I hop that you have been able to get a little more secure running of your computer. I am no geek either but I am married to one and HE is my IT person. Big help in that area. Don't hesitate to find someone you can actually trust to help you out when you are down. Remember you can't do it all. There are times when it is best left to the professional.
